Seafood at Batam

After a revitalising spa and hair treatment, we were hungry. Li Li's hair colouring took longer than expected....so we hurried her and the hair stylist to complete the job as we were getting hungry. I believe the hairstylist finished the job in record time. Hahaha...all our pressure on the hairstylist helped speed up the process. Seafood dinner was another one of the highlights of our trip. We simply can't wait to eat Seafood at Batam! :-)

Anyway once completed, we hurried off to catch a taxi and head to Batam Centre as our colleague Herry, told us that there's a good seafood restaurant in Batam Centre. Upon reaching Batam Centre, we practically jogged our way up the building (Batam Centre) as we wanted to quickly reach to restaurant and eat. We hunt and hunt but to our utter frustrated as we couldn't find the restaurant and we were hungry! As I always say...a hungry woman is an angry woman!

At this point of time, we were just starving. That would be the correct description for all of us. Remembering that we were 1 hour behind Singapore time, we realised it was way past our dinner time! So in the end, we gave up looking for a non-existing restaurant. We decided to go for the local recommendation, Golden Prawn 933 Restaurant, Batam.

We had to take another taxi to go to the restaurant which took about 30 minutes to reach. Golden Prawn 933 Restaurant was at Batu Ampar, Batam....a pretty out of reach place. The restaurant offers a serene view of the seafront and being on stilts the restaurant was surrounded by water. The calmness of the water gives a cooling ambience. This restaurant allows patrons to choose our own choice of seafood. As in we get to pick the live seafood....before its sent to the kitchen. Batam is about eating fresh seafood, but the chef's or cooks aren't great. Sad to say this, but perhaps they need to send their chefs or cooks for better training. Of course the price we paid, probably couldn't cover that cost for training.

It's best if you know how to choose your own. The chap who was helping us to make the selection is...not so good at it as we would have believed. Don't go for the La La or clams. It's really not so good. So, don't bother trying. There are cheaper places for seafood in town but that is really more for the Batam locals.

Thank God the restaurant in Batam serves  dinner very fast. We ate and ate to our fill. We ordered a lot...I would say probably too much. We had 3 Chilli Crabs, 800gm of Prawns, 700gm of La Las, 800gm Fish and a green vegetable dish. After running round to look for dinner, we were thristy before the meal, so three of us ordered the Jeruk orange juice. Theresal wanted something different and so she went for a can drink.

We basically washed down our dinner with lots of Jeruk orange juices. Jeruk orange juice is a specialty in Batam. So, don't forget to try some when you are in Batam. The food was salty....and we ended up really thristy. Not quite what we expected. The other is the crabs we ordered were not so fleshy as we had hoped for. I guess we have been spoiled for quality, quality that we get from Singapore. Though more expensive, but the quality is a lot better.

The food trip ended with another taxi ride back to the hotel....A satisfied spa trip for us. Batam is a place to eat, relax, eat again and relax. And perhaps even shopping.

We were knocked out in no time after we returned to the hotel. Guess, we ate too much and just tired from the whole day's activities.

Our dinner costs us Rp 711,700 in total. If you are more daring and willing to settle for the hawker style seafood, then you can go try Pujasera A1, Batam. We did not go for it because our colleague told us to go for the restaurant seafood. But unfortunately, the place he recommended us was no longer in existence. Maybe we will try Pujasera, Batam the next time we go to Batam. If we do, we will be sure to give an update about it. Right now, that's all we have for you.
